Lewis 13 - Upper Iowa 1 || LU 10 - UIU 3

Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

The Flyers of Lewis University swept Upper Iowa in a pair of non-conference games in Romeoville, Ill. Wednesday afternoon.  The home won game one 13-1 despite only out hitting the Peacocks by two and then won game two by a 10-3 count.  The two losses drop UIU’s overall record to 7-12, while Lewis improves to 14-6 on the season.

Lewis wasted little time jumping out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the first and three more in the second.  The Flyers added two in the fourth before putting the game out of reach with four runs in the fifth.  The home team’s bats pushed their lead to 11-0 as two more runners crossed home plate in the sixth.

Upper Iowa scratched the scoreboard for their first run in the top of the seventh.  Ryan Kreiner led the inning off with a double to center and moved to third on a ground out.  Mikey Henrichs earned an rbi with a single to right.

Fabian Lopez (0-2) suffers the loss after throwing 3.2 innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out three batters.

Tyler Adams tallied three hits in four at bats and Juve Reyes reached twice thanks to hits.  As a team, UIU had nine hits, just two less than Lewis, but couldn’t string them together to produce runs.

In the second game, the bullpen took over with six pitchers each getting an inning of work.  The Peacock hurlers struggled to find the strike zone handing out 11 walks and when they did find the plate, the Flyers turned the ball around quickly to put it into play.  Lewis came up with nine hits in addition to the walks to score ten runs in the second game.  Adam McClure was the lone Peacock to avoid a walk, but all six pitchers gave up at least one run in the their time on the mound.

The Flyers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first and scored a run in the second, third and fourth innings before putting another trio of runs on the board in the fifth.  Lewis added their final run in the sixth inning.

Upper Iowa scored a run in the fourth inning without getting a hit thanks to a pair of errors and a walk.

In the seventh, the Peacocks loaded the bases with one out.  Adams grounded out, but drove a run in and Taylor Brecht plated the second run with a single.

The UIU offense was limited to just three hits in the second game with two of them coming in the final inning.

This weekend, Upper Iowa will return home to Robertson Woods Field to face the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University.  The Peacocks and Mustangs will face off in a four-game NSIC series this Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 31 and Apr. 1.  The first pitch on Saturday will be thrown at 1 p.m., while the Sunday double header will begin at noon.
