This Week in Peacock Baseball... The Peacocks will look to build on their 3-1 weekend with another six games this week. Upper Iowa will open their play this week in Romeoville, Illinois taking on the Flyers of Lewis University in a non-conference double header. The two games will both be seven inning contests. Following the contests with Lewis, UIU will return home and prepare for a four-game NSIC series against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University. SMSU will be playing in their first conference games, while UIU opened with the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota, Crookston last weekend. Saturday's double header will begin at 1 p.m., while Sunday's action gets started at noon. Both days will include a seven-inning game to start followed by a nine-inning game.
Four Peacocks Lead the Charge... Tyler Adams,
Matt Corbitt,
Andrew Kraus and
Rudy Casillas are leading the UIU offense at the plate. The four have combined for 92 htis on the year, 58 runs and 41 rbi. Adams is hitting .424 with 6 doubles, while Corbitt sits at .396 with four doubles. Kraus is hitting .377 with 7 doubles and Casillas is batting .373 with 3 doubles and 10 stolen bases. As a team, the Peacocks have swiped 33 bases this season.
Super Mario... Mario Madera is enjoying a great start to his season. The right hander is 2-0 and has yet to surrender an earned run (0.00 ERA). Madera has struck out 10 batters in his 15 innings and is holding his opponents to a .250 batting average.
On the horizon... Upper Iowa will play another six games next week in a consolidated schedule due to Easter Sunday. The Peacocks will travel to Winona State University on Tuesday, Apr. 3, for an NSIC double header with the Warriors and then journey to Bemidji State University in northern Minnesota for a four-game series with the Beavers on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 6-7.
