UMC threatened to get on the board over the first four innings with six hits, but the visitors left five on base and had one runner erased when the Peacocks turned two.

A misplay in center allowed Henrichs to lead off the fourth inning with a triple and one out later the Peacocks had runners on the corners.  Adams hit an rbi-single through the hole on the right side and Casillas followed with a rbi-ground out plating Heiman, who reached after being hit earlier in the inning.  Kraus drove home the team’s third run of the inning on a hard line drive that hit the pitcher giving the home team an 8-0 lead.

Game Two Recap

The Golden Eagles struck for a pair of runs in the top of the third inning.  With runners on first and second, Mitch Allore doubled to the wall in left to drive both runners in and stake the visitors to an early 2-0 lead.

A leadoff walk to UMC in the fifth got worse after a Peacock error handling a sac bunt attempt and a balk.  Two straight singles put two more runs on the board and chased Corbitt, UIU’s starter, off the mound.  A third single put the home team in a 5-0 hole and left runners on first and second with no outs.  After getting two outs, a passed ball and an infield single gave the Golden Eagles their fourth and final run of the inning to extend their lead to 6-0.

UMC looked for more padding in the seventh inning with runners on the corners and one out, but reliever Tyler Beck and the Peacocks worked out of the jam and kept the margin at six runs.

Henrichs doubled and Corbitt had a bunt single to put runners on the corners with one out in the bottom of the seventh.  John Dobson doubled to the wall in left scoring both runners to cut the lead to 6-2.  UIU was unable to bring their catcher home and the game moved to the eighth inning.

The Peacocks were unable to scratch any more runs out as the Golden Eagles claimed the final game of the series, 6-2, and notched their first win over the Peacock baseball team after 22 straight losses to UIU in conference action.

Corbitt (1-2) took the loss after throwing four innings and allowing six runs, only three of which were earned, on six hits.  Beck and Cole Hanson combined for five innings of scoreless relief to give the UIU offense a chance.  Corbitt was the lone Peacock at the plate to tally two hits in the game.
