UIU lost the opener 4-2, but rallied with a 4-3 decision in the second contest to move their record to 1-2 on the year.

The Peacocks will now head south to face Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. on Monday, Mar. 5, before moving on to the Clearwater Baseball Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. from Tuesday, Mar. 6, to Saturday, Mar. 10.

Game One Recap || SBU 4 - UIU 2

The Peacocks started on the right foot as Tyler Adams led the game off with a double to left.  After a Rudy Casillas sac bunt, Mikey Henrichs picked up an rbi with a ground out.

The Bearcats answered right back scoring a run with two outs on a bases loaded single.  Starter Fabian Lopez got out of the jam with a strikeout to end the inning.

Henrichs opened the fourth inning with a blast over the fence in left center to give the visitors a 2-1 lead, but it wouldn't last long.

In the bottom half of the inning, SBU scored three runs on just one hit to take a 4-2 lead.  The runs scored with one out on a three-run homer by Tyler Christophel after a walk and hit batsmen.

Lopez (0-1) took the loss in his first start of the season.  The righthander went five innings and allowed the four runs on four hits while striking out three.  The downfall for Lopez was his control which led to three walks and three hit batsmen.

Dustin Caplette controlled the Peacock lineup allowing just two hits to UIU.

Game Two Recap || UIU 4 - SBU 3

Upper Iowa's bats woke up in the second game led by freshman Andrew Kraus, who was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate.  Matt Corbitt threw well to earn his first win of the season as well.

The Bearcats were the first on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Southwest Baptist opened the inning with a triple and scored their runs on an rbi-single by Christophel and a fielder's choice.

Upper Iowa was not behind for long though as they tied the game with a pair of runs in the fourth.  Kraus homered with one out for the first run and catcher John Dobson earned the second rbi with a single up the middle scoring Patrick Arntson, who reached with a hit through the left side.

The game remained knotted at 2-2 until the final inning.  In the top of the seventh, Cody Heiman singled to right and moved to second on a sac bunt by Adams.  A single to left by Casillas plated Heiman, and with two outs, Kraus delived the insurance run chasing Casillas home with a double down the right field line.

Southwest Baptist scored one run in their final at bat against reliever Tyler Beck, but the sophomore was able to close the door and earn his fist save of the season.

Corbitt (1-0) earned the win after throwing six innings and allowing three runs, two of which were earned, on six hits while striking out seven Bearcat batters.

Adams added two hits at the plate in game two to aide Kraus' big game.
