Upper Iowa Set for Final Weekend of Basketball

The Peacocks will face the Beavers of Bemidji State on Friday at 6/8 p.m. and the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at 4/6 p.m.

This Weekend’s Northern Sun Contests...  After splitting a pair of decisions last weekend, the Peacocks will take to the road for their last games of the 2011-12 campaign. UIU will look to build on last Friday night’s win over the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston with rematches against the Beavers of Bemidji State on Friday and the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday in Bemidji while Saturday’s action will start at 4 p.m. in Duluth.
 
Leading the Peacocks... Whitney Kieffer leads the ladies in blue; the freshman is averaging 15 points and is also bringing down 6.6 rebounds.  Senior Jeri Jacobson is registering 14.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Jennifer Herrick is averaging 7.1 points and dishing out 1.8 assists, while Laura TerHark is chipping in with 5.6 points of her own.
 
Farewell to our senior Jeri Jacobson... In her two seasons at UIU, Jeri has appeared in 48 games and started 43.  She has accumulated 535 points and pulled down 236 rebounds adding 94 assists and 49 steals.  Jeri has scored in double figures 30 times and pulled down double figure rebounds four times.  Her career-high in points came at home when she scored 25 against Minnesota State this year.  Mama Peacock, as she is called by her teammates, grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds twice this year on the road at U-Mary and at Minnesota, Crookston.

Leading the Bulldogs...   Katrina Newman (14.4 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.5 spg,  43.8% FG ) || Courtney Doucette (12.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.2 apg, 79.6% FT) ||  Shelly Stemper (11.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.9 spg, 76% FT).

This Weekend’s Northern Sun Contests...  After a sweep last weekend in Dorman Gym, the Peacocks will take to the road for their final games of the 2011-12 campaign. UIU will look to spoil Bemidji State’s run at a regular season NSIC title when they meet on Friday night at 8 p.m.  Following the match up with the Beavers, the Peacocks will head east to take on the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at 6 p.m.
 
Farewell to seniors Brad Arnold, Mark Lafrenz and Domingo Kingsley... Brad has played in 85 games making 11 starts.  Brad has racked up 361 points, 178 rebounds, 132 assists and 57 steals in his time on the floor.  Mark has played in 100 games making 13 starts.  Mark has accumulated 347 points, 165 rebounds, 44 assists and 23 steals in his time on the hardwood. Domingo joined the program as a freshman and has been a student assistant coach for the last four years. 
 
Leading the Peacocks... Tucker Wentzien leads the team with 13.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest.  The junior post is shooting 50.2% from the field.  Fellow junior Sam Elgin hit the gamewinner in Saturday’s upset of MSU Moorhead and the Center Point native is averaging 11.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.  Jake Hughes and Joey Woods are combining for 16 points and 5 assists per game.
