This Weekend’s Northern Sun Contests... After falling at Winona State this past weekend, the Peacocks welcome the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota, Crookston and the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead to Fayette for the final home games in Dorman Gym this season. UIU will look to get back into the win column and avenge a pair of losses on the road a month ago. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. both nights.
Teams will Play4Kay on Friday... Play 4Kay is an opportunity to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The official charity is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in partnership with The V Foundation and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Fans that wear pink to the game Friday will receive admission for $1 and all in attendance can participate in a raffle for a pink basketball with all profits from the raffle going directly to breast cancer research.
Farewell to our senior Jeri Jacobson... In her two seasons at UIU, Jeri has appeared in 46 games and started 41. She has accumulated 503 points and pulled down 229 rebounds adding 92 assists and 48 steals. Jeri has scored in double figures 28 times and pulled down double figure rebounds four times. Her career-high in points came at home when she scored 25 against Minnesota State this year. Mama Peacock, as she is called by her teammates, grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds twice this year on the road at U-Mary and at Minnesota, Crookston.
Scouting the Golden Eagles... The Golden Eagles split a pair of games last weekend after a win over Bemidji State (77-73) moving to 6-12 in NSIC games. UMC leaders include: Brittani Wiese (15.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.6 apg) || Megan Eul (13.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.3 apg) || Carly Rothstein (6.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.9 apg).
Scouting the Dragons... The Dragons are the hottest team in the NSIC right now having won seven straight games and moving up to sixth place. MSU Moorhead leaders include: Angie Jetvig (17.6 ppg, 10.1rpg, 2.3 apg, 41.7% FG, 89.3% FT) || Megan Strese (9.9 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 41.8% FG) || Marisa Yernatich (8.1 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 46.8% FG, 46.8% 3 FG).

This Weekend’s Northern Sun Contests... The Peacocks will return home for their final home games of the 2011 campaign. Upper Iowa will look to end a five-game skid when they host the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston on Friday night and the Dragons of MSU Moorhead on Saturday. Upper Iowa will Play4Kay on Friday night honoring the women’s team’s efforts to raise breast cancer awareness; all fans wearing pink will receive admission for $1. On Saturday the team will honor their three seniors for a combined 13 years of service to the program. Both games are scheduled to tip at 8 p.m.
Farewell to seniors Brad Arnold, Mark Lafrenz and Domingo Kingsley... Brad (Independence, Iowa) has battled back from two ACL injuries and is having his best year as a Peacock. He has played in 83 games making 9 starts. Brad has racked up 344 points, 175 rebounds, 126 assists and 52 steals in his time on the floor. Mark (Bennett, Iowa) has played in 98 games making 12 starts, all but one of which came this season. Mark has accumulated 335 points, 163 rebounds, 41 assists and 23 steals in his time on the hardwood. Domingo (Harmony, Minnesota) joined the program as a freshman and has been a student assistant coach for the last four years.
