Warriors Dominate Rematch with Peacocks

The Warriors of Winona State dominated the Peacocks in the second half of their rematch in Winona, Minn. on Saturday.  The home team turned a twelve-point lead at the half into a 100-60 victory that dropped UIU's record to 2-20 on the season.

Upper Iowa's led 7-6 just three and a half minutes into the game, but the advantage would be there last of the night.  Winona State outscored their guests 34-10 over the next thirteen minutes to build a 23-point lead.  The Peacocks were able to cut the gap to twelve heading into the locker room thanks to an 18-7 run over the final four minutes to set the score at 47-35.

UIU hit three of their first four free throws in the second half to pull within nine, 47-38, but the visitors would not get any closer.  At the midway point of the second half, Winona State led 83-48 fueled by a 36-10 run that spanned nine and a half minutes.  The Warriors continued to pull away winning by a final margin of forty points, 100-60.

WSU held advantages in points off turnovers (29-12) and points in the paint (40-16).  The inside advantage was due in large part to the Warrior's Michelle McDonald, who scored 32 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

NEXT UP FOR THE PEACOCKS...

Upper Iowa will return home for the final time this season on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18.  The Peacocks will take on the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston on Friday and the Dragons of MSU Moorhead on Saturday.  Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. tips.
