This Week in Peacock Football... The Peacocks are on the road to face the Golden Bears of Concordia University, St. Paul this Saturday at noon.  UIU will look to even their record at 3-3 in the NSIC and 1-1 in the South Division, while CU will try for their second win of the year and first in the division.  Last year, the Golden Bears shocked the Peacocks with a pair of touchdowns that came in the final four minutes to give Concordia a 20-19 win.  Prior to last week’s 464 yards in the air, Peacock quarterback Cole Jaeschke’s high output in a game was against the Golden Bears last season when he threw for 410 yards and two touchdowns.  Upper Iowa’s passing offense is currently ranked 14th in the country, while Concordia’s is ranked 32nd.

The Series...  Concordia has won all six match ups with the Peacocks; the annual meeting has occurred since 2006. After the first game, which the Golden Bears dominated 41-14, CU and UIU have locked up in four close games.  The Peacocks have come up on the short end in each of those games. Upper Iowa lost 20-17 in 2007 and 23-14 in 2008 before dropping a wild 57-56 double overtime game in Fayette in 2009. In 2010, UIU’s last visit to St. Paul, Concordia celebrated their senior day with a 56-7 decision over the Peacocks.  Last season marked the fourth game decided in the final quarter in the series.  Concordia claimed a come-from-behind, one-point win, 20-19, after scoring 13 points in the final four minutes of the game including a two-play, 84-yard drive in the final 10 seconds.

“Kea” to the Peacocks... Redshirt sophomore Keaton Hosch has recorded three touchdowns in each of the last two games including five  on receptions and one on a punt return.  His 8 scores this season tie him for 19th in the nation with teammate Lucas Hefty... Hosch is 13th in the nation and 1st in the conference with 106.2 receiving yards per game and also ranks 6th nationally and first in the NSIC in all-purpose yards with 186.2 per game.

“Cole” as the other side of the pillow…  Cole Jaeschke leapt over two former Peacock qb’s  on the all-time  passing yards list this past week after throwing for 464 yards and five touchdowns.  Jaeschke has posted a passing efficiency of 155.2 through the first five games, which ranks him 18th in the nation and 2nd in the Northern Sun.  The redshirt sophomore is accounting for 338 yards of total offense per game, which ranks 11th in the country and 1st in the NSIC.  He has now thrown for 4,005 yards in his career and sits in fourth place on the all-time list.
