Radio... Upper Iowa Peacock football can be heard throughout the 2012 season courtesy of AM 950 KOEL. Play-by-play announcer Joe Stasi is in his tenth season as the “Voice of the Peacocks.” He will be joined on the broadcast by Zach Carlyle, a sophomore sports communication major at UIU. The pre-game show is scheduled for 11:40 a.m.
This Week in Peacock Football... The Peacocks will head to South Dakota to match up against the #21 Cougars of the University of Sioux Falls for the teams’ first meeting. Last week, UIU scored the first 12 points at SMSU and held a six-point fourth quarter lead. However, the Mustangs would score a touchdown with 25 seconds left and the extra point gave them the 38-37 win. The Cougars avoided a loss to Augustana last Saturday in the first overtime after throwing an interception on their initial possession. USF blocked the Viking field goal attempt to push the game to a second OT. Augie scored a touchdown in the second overtime, but the Cougars blocked the point after attempt. On offense, USF scored the tying touchdown and won on the extra point, 32-31.
The Series... UIU and USF will be meeting for the first time on the football field. Sioux Falls joined the NSIC with Minot State for competition beginning this fall.
Three is “Kea”... Redshirt sophomore Keaton Hosch (#3) has nine touchdowns this season including seven on receptions, one on a kick return and one on a punt return. His 9 visits to the endzone tie him for 98th in the nation in scoring. Hosch is 37th in the nation and 6th in the conference with 86.9 receiving yards per game and also ranks 15th nationally and first in the NSIC in all-purpose yards with 165.1 per game. The Independence, Iowa native has returned 18 kicks for 435 yards and 7 punts for 154 yards and added 39 receptions for 695 yards and four rushes for 37 yards to surpass the 1,300-yard mark in all-purpose yards this season. His work on punt returns has vaulted UIU to 11th nationally and the top spot in the NSIC.
Forecast calls for “Cole” in the Air… Cole Jaeschke has posted a passing efficiency of 135.4 through the first eight games, which ranks him 52nd in the nation and 5th in the Northern Sun. The redshirt sophomore is accounting for 286.9 yards of total offense per game, which ranks 27th in the country and 3rd in the NSIC. He has now thrown for 4,543 yards in his career and sits in fourth place on the all-time list within 83 yards of claiming second place for himself. The Peacock passing offense is ranked 32nd in the country and third in the NSIC with 276.1 yards per game under Jaeschke’s leadership.

Three Headed Monster… UIU’s trio of Ethan Douglas, Tony Leggett and Jordan Andera has the NSIC’s attention. Douglas leads the UIU defense with 90 tackles; Leggett and Andera follow closely behind with 72 and 70 tackles, respectively. Douglas is tied for 8th in the nation and tied for first in the NSIC with 11.3 tackles per game, while Leggett is 21st nationally and 5th in conference play with 10.3 per contest.
