This Weekend’s Northern Sun Contests… After facing the top two teams in the Northern Sun last weekend in Augustana and #10 Wayne State, the Peacocks will continue their homestand at Dorman Gym this weekend with NSIC contests against Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. tipoffs. The Mustangs and Mavericks both defeated the Peacocks by 16 points in southern Minnesota earlier this season.
Looking at the NSIC Standings… Minnesota State is fourth in the NSIC. Despite losing two games last weekend, the Mavericks are 8-5 in the conference. SMSU sits just one spot above Upper Iowa at 4-9 in the NSIC. The Mustangs enter the weekend having lost five straight.
Leading the Peacocks… Whitney Kieffer leads the Peacocks with 14.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. Jeri Jacobson also averages double figures with 13.1 and is pulling down 6.2 rebounds. Jennifer Herrick is netting 7.0 points, while Laura TerHark is adding 5.8 points. Ashlee Bailey is scoring 4points and 4.8 rebounds, while Lyndsay Westgaard is averaging 5.5 points and 2.4 rebounds.

This Weekend’s Northern Sun Contests… The Peacocks look to extend their three game win streak this weekend as they host a pair of Northern Sun opponents to Dorman Gym. Upper Iowa welcomes Southwest Minnesota State (9-8, 8-5 NSIC) on Friday; the Mustangs dropped a pair of NSIC games last weekend. The Peacocks will then face the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato (6-11, 5-8 NSIC). The tip is slated for approximately 8 p.m. each night following the women’s games.
Leading the Peacocks… Tucker Wentzien leads the Upper Iowa offense averaging 14.2 points per game. The junior from Solon is also pulling down 7.6 rebounds (86th in nation) and is shooting 56% from the field (44th in nation). Sam Elgin is also netting double figures with 11.5 points a game and is also second on the team in rebounding with 4.4 boards, while Jake Hughes is averaging 8.1 points and dishing out 2.1 assists per game. The junior guard is also shooting 83.1% from the free throw line on the year. Joey Woods and Mike Lafrenz are coming off the bench averaging 6.3 points apiece. Senior Brad Arnold is averaging 6.1 points per game and 3.4 rebounds. As a team the Peacocks are shooting 37.7% from behind the arc (54th in the nation) and are averaging 12.9 turnovers (37th in the nation).
