This Weekend’s Northern Sun Contests...  After snapping a 29-game losing streak with a win at home on Sunday versus the Golden Bears of Concordia, Upper Iowa will hit the road looking to win back-to-back games for the first time since November of 2008 when the Peacocks won three straight.  UIU will face the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead on Friday night at 6 p.m. in Moorhead, Minnesota.  The team will then head east to take on the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Crookston, Minnesota.
 
Looking at the NSIC Standings...  The Golden Eagles (T-7th) are the top team of the trio in the current standings, followed by the Dragons (13th) and Peacocks (14th).  UMC is 4-5 in the NSIC and 7-6 overall, while MSUM is 2-7 in the conference and 5-8 overall.
 
Leading the Peacocks...  Whitney Kieffer leads the team with 13.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game.  Jeri Jacobson also averages double figures with 12.4 points; the senior is also grabbing 6.0 rebounds.  Laura TerHark is netting 6.8 points, while Jen Herrick adds 6.8 points and 1.7 assists.  Ashlee Bailey is contributing 4.6 points and 5.7 rebounds, while Lynsday Westgaard tallies 5.1 points and 2.4 rebounds.

This Weekend’s Northern Sun Contests...  The Peacocks have dropped eight of their last nine games, but they have held the lead in the second half in the last eight.  An average of eight points has separated Upper Iowa from their opponents in the last seven losses.  UIU will look to get back into the win column this weekend with a pair of NSIC road contests at #16 MSU Moorhead and Minnesota, Crookston.  The Dragons (12-1, 8-1 NSIC), the NSIC’s top team in the standings, welcome the Peacocks on Friday at 8 p.m., while the Golden Eagles (5-8, 1-8 NSIC) will host Upper Iowa on Saturday at 6 p.m.
 
Leading the Peacocks...  Tucker Wentzien leads the UIU offense with a 13.5 point average; the junior from Solon is also grabbing 7.2 rebounds.  Wentzien ranks 41st nationally in field goal percentage (56.8%).  Sam Elgin is also averaging double figures with 11.6 points a game, while Jake Hughes adds 7.8 points and 2.3 assists per game.  The junior point guard is ranked 47th in the nation in free throw shooting (87%).  Joey Woods has made an instant impact in his return to the court after an injury cost him the first nine games.  Woods is averaging 7.8 points, 2.5 assists and 1.7 rebounds.  Brad Arnold comes off the bench to score 6.5 per game and pull down 3.3 boards.  Upper Iowa is shooting 44.3% from the field this season including 38.6% from the three-point line, which is ranked 52nd in the country.
