The Upper Iowa men's soccer team opened their season this evening in Lakewood, Colorado facing off against Colorado Christian. The Cougars and Peacocks were on the pitch for 110 minutes, but neither team found the back of the net as the game ended in a scoreless tie, 0-0.
Andy Youde stopped four shots during regulation, while
Jordan Bell turned away a pair of shots in the overtime periods. The Cougar netminder, David Ilgenfritz, stopped 8 of the Peacock shots headed toward the frame.
UIU outshot their hosts 19-15 and 8-6 in shots on goal, while earning a 9-5 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Derek Oelmann led the Peacock attack with 6 shots, 3 of which were targeted at the net, while
Sean Kim and
Marco Garcia each struck 2 shots on goal; Kim did have one additional shot that flew off the mark in the contest.
The Peacocks (0-0-1) will get back on the field tomorrow afternoon in Denver, Colorado. UIU will face Metro State at 3:30 as part of a double header with the women's teams of each school. The game will be the Peacock women's team's first game of the season.
