This Week in Peacock Baseball

For the third straight weekend, the Upper Iowa baseball team will host a Northern Sun Conference weekend series; although Peacock fans will have to look twice as they will be rooting for the visitors on the scoreboard this weekend. Minnesota, Crookston will be the home team on the field and on the scoreboard after the games were moved to Fayette.

The field conditions in northwest Minnesota are not conducive to host a series at this time so for the second time in UIU’s short NSIC history, UMC will be the home team at Robertson Woods Field. The first time occured in 2007. Saturday’s double header will begin at 2 p.m., while Sunday’s action will start at 12 p.m.

Upper Iowa and Minnesota, Crookston have played fifteen times since UIU joined the Northern Sun. The Peacocks have won all fifteen games.

At Robertson Woods Field, the Peacocks are 3-7 this season. All the games have been Northern Sun Conference games.

Scouting the Golden Eagles

The Golden Eagles are winless in fourteen games this season. The team is led by Josh Brehmer who is hitting .294. Ryan Kitzhaber is hitting .256 with 10 hits and 6 rbi on the season.

On the mound, UMC is led by reliever Taylor Kollman, who has appeared in five games while posting a 6.23 ERA, and starter Ryan Kelzer, who has a 0-3 record in six appearances and three starts with a 10.43 ERA.

Minnesota, Crookston in 0-6 in NSIC games after dropping a pair to Augustana and four games at Winona State last weekend.

Looking Ahead

Upper Iowa will remain at home next Tuesday afternoon with a NSIC double header against Concordia University, St. Paul at 2 p.m.

The Peacocks will then play their first games of the NSIC season away from Robertson Woods Field when they travel to Marshall, Minnesota to face the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State in a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 16-17.
