This Weekend in Peacock Baseball…

The Upper Iowa baseball team will once again host a Northern Sun Conference weekend series; although for the second straight weekend the games have been shifted. The Peacocks will host the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth at Robertson Woods Field in a pair of double headers on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 1-2. Both double headers will begin with a seven-inning game and be followed by a nine-inning game. Friday’s double header will begin at 2 p.m., while the first pitch for Saturday’s games will be at 12 p.m.

The Peacocks will wrap up a busy week in which they will have played 10 games in seven days. Upper Iowa lost three close decisions already this week and are currently 1-5 on the week. The win came in the final game of the Bemidji State series on Monday by a 13-9 count behind 22 hits from the Peacock bats.

The four-game set with the Bulldogs was moved up a day due to rain forecasted for all day on Sunday.

Scouting Bemidji State…

The Bulldogs are coming off an NSIC Tournament appearance last year. UMD is currently 4-8 with three wins against St. Josephs and a blowout victory over Minnesota, Crookston.

Minnesota Duluth has played four games in Kentucky and eight games in Florida and has not played since the big win over the Golden Eagles on March 15.

UMD had their opening weekend in NSIC delayed after last weekend’s series with the Wildcats of Wayne State was canceled due to weather.

Looking Ahead…

The Peacocks will host Winona State in a NSIC double header on Wednesday, Apr. 6, with the Warriors beginning at 1 p.m.

Upper Iowa is then scheduled to travel to Minnesota, Crookston for a four-game series with the Golden Eagles on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 10-11.
