The Upper Iowa baseball team extended their winning streak to four at the Winning Inning Invitational in Clearwater, Florida and avenged an earlier loss to the East Stroudsburg with a 6-5 victory in extra innings over the Warriors on Thursday.

The Peacocks got off to a quick start scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Nick Bergeman led off with a double and Matt Smoley earned two runs batted in with a 2-run homerun to put them ahead early.

East Stroudsburg answered with two of their own in the top of the third and one in the top of the fifth. UIU would respond. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Smoley collected his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly scoring Bergeman from third and Rudy Casillas later gave Upper Iowa a 4-3 advantage when he crossed home plate from first on a three base throwing error.

The Warriors would take the lead with two more runs in the top of the eighth but Upper Iowa was not done. In the bottom of the eighth, Kody McCauley tied the game at four with a solo homerun.

The contest would then see extra innings with the Peacocks coming out on top in the bottom of the tenth by way of a single down the third base line from Smoley scoring Taylor Brecht from third.

Mario Madera earned the win in relief throwing one inning while striking out two and walking none. Brett Westra started the game and threw 7.1 innings giving up five runs, four of which were earned, struck out two and gave two free passes.
