This Week in Women’s Basketball...
The Peacocks return home this Friday and Saturday for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchups. On Friday, the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul visit Dorman Gym before Upper Iowa welcomes the Huskies of St. Cloud State University on Saturday.
Both contests are slated for 6 p.m. starts.
Scouting the Golden Bears
The Golden Bears hold a 11-8 overall record which includes a 10-5 mark in the NSIC entering Friday’s matchup in Fayette and are riding an eight-game winning streak dating back to a January 8th victory over Winona State.
CU is led by the duo of Jineen Williams (15.9 points per game) and Maurika Hickman (15.7 points per game) while boasting the fourth-best scoring offense in the league by posting 73 points per game.
In addition, the Golden Bears fuel their offense with the second-best three-point shooting percentage in the NSIC (37.3%).
Scouting the Huskies
The 9-10 Huskies enter Friday’s matchup at Winona State with a 6-9 mark in conference games and are losers of four of their last five games.
SCSU has three players averaging double-figures which includes Sam Price (12.1 points per game), Talisha Barlow (11.6 ppg) and Jessica Benson (10.8 ppg).
The Huskies lead the conference in steals with 12 per game and are second in free throw shooting by converting 77.9% of all free throw tries.
Series History
Since moving to NCAA Division II, the Peacocks are 0-15 combined against this weekend’s opponents. Concordia-St. Paul is 10-0 when playing the Peacocks while St. Cloud State holds a 5-0 advantage over UIU
The Last Meeting
This weekend marks the second time this season the Peacocks will matchup with this weekend’s opponents.
On January 9th, UIU travelled to St. Paul, Minnesota and lost to the Golden Bears, 77-54. The afternoon prior, UIU was defeated by St. Cloud State, 100-59 in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Getting a Second Chance
UIU ranks second in offensive rebounding by averaging 12.89 per game. Only Minnesota Duluth tallies more offensive rebounds per game (13.21) in the NSIC.
