Game One: Upper Iowa 4-3
Game Two: Southwest Baptist 7-3
The Peacock baseball team split their double header with Southwest Baptist University on Saturday. Upper Iowa won the first game, a seven-inning contest, by a 4-3 count behind a strong performance by starter Josh McKeon. In the second game, the Bearcats evened the day’s record at 1-1 with a 7-3 victory. After the split, the Peacocks are now 1-3 overall.
In the first game, the Peacocks scored a run in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The visitors added two more in the fourth and held on to withstand a three-run fifth by the Bearcats to post the 4-3 victory. With the win, McKeon improves to 1-0 on the year after a no-decision in his first start.
In the second game, SBU scored a run in the first and added two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one more in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead. UIU rallied with a pair of runs in the seventh inning, but the home team pushed their lead out of reach in the eighth with two more runs to post the 7-3 win.
Upper Iowa will now prepare to travel to the Clearwater Baseball Invitational in Clearwater, Florida for seven nine-inning affairs from March 6-12.
