Complete Release in .pdf format

This Weekend in Peacock Baseball...

Upper Iowa will head back south to Missouri this weekend for a double header with the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist in Bolivar. the double header will begin at noon on Saturday, Feb. 26. The series was originally scheduled for three games with a single nine-inning game on tap for Friday followed by the double header, but rain all day Thursday in southern Missouri mandated that Friday’s game be cancelled to allow the field to dry. The games will be SBU’s first of the season.

Looking Back...

Last weekend, the Peacocks got together with the Miners of Missouri S&T in a series shortened to two games due to rain. MST claimed a pair of two-run decisions, 4-2 and 2-0. The Peacocks got solid pitching over the weekend but struggled at the plate hitting only .154 while scoring their two runs in their first action outside this spring.

Scouting Southwest Baptist…

The Bearcats will open their 2011 season when the Peacocks visit Bolivar on Saturday. SBU has high hopes of making the MIAA Tournament this season led by a strong group of seniors and other veteran returners.

The team returns some outstanding players from last year’s team, including All-MIAA selections Nigel Morton (first team utility) and Paden Grubbs (second team outfield).

Last season, the Bearcats posted a 11-39 record overall and a 9-31 mark in MIAA contests. The team batted .277 with a slugging percentage of .405, while earning an 8.12 ERA on the mound. Opponents hit .346 off the Bearcat hurlers in 2010.

Looking Ahead…

The Peacocks will wrap up their classes and take exams next week before heading down to the Clearwater Baseball Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. from March 6-12.

Upper Iowa will play a total of seven nine-inning games; one for each day of the trip. UIU will line up with East Stroudsburg, Lockhaven, Cedarville, Urbana, rematches with East Stroudsburg and Cedarville, and a final game against Alderson-Broadas.

Following the spring break trip, Upper Iowa is scheduled to host six home games from March 23-27. The Peacocks will welcome the Flyers of Lewis on Wednesday, the 23rd, for a non-conference double header and then open the NSIC-slate with a four game set against the Beavers of Bemidji State on Saturday and Sunday, the 26th and 27th.
