Box Score
Upper Iowa's double header with the Miners of Missouri S&T was cut short today due to rain, but the Peacocks got a second straight strong performance from a starter on the mound despite losing their second straight game.
Fabian Lopez climbed the hill for UIU and threw 6 innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out 4 batters.
The Miners put their two runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth after the leadoff man walked. A Ben Pieper double down the leftfield line gave MST runners at second and third with one out. Lopez induced a grounder right to third for the second out, but a two-run single down the leftfield line gave the Miners all the runs they needed on the day.
The Peacocks threatened in the top of the fourth with a Matt Smoley double with one out, but a pair of strikeouts ended the scoring chance. In the fifth, a Miner error and a Matt Corbitt single runners on first and second with no outs, but three straight outs ended the threat.
After one batter in the top of the seventh, the rains became too much to play through. The game
was delayed due to rain for 45 minutes prior to the game being called and the second game of the day being cancelled.
The Peacock bats only managed three hits; the two mentioned before by Smoley and Corbitt and one by Nick Bergeman.
Upper Iowa (0-2) will return to Missouri next weekend to take on Southwest Baptist in a three-game series in Bolivar on Friday and Saturday.
