Minnesota Duluth used a huge run in the middle of the second half to take a lead and never yield it as they claimed an 82-70 NSIC victory over Upper Iowa. The Bulldogs outscored the Peacocks by ten in the second half after taking a two-point lead into the halftime break. Upper Iowa falls back to .500 overall at 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC, while Minnesota Duluth improves to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The game was a back-and-forth contest through the first 25 minutes as UIU came out of the locker room fired up for the second half. The Peacocks used a 12-0 run to erase a seven-point deficit and take a five-point lead, 50-45, with 15:14 showing on the clock.
The next six minutes proved to be the downfall for the home team tonight. Minnesota Duluth went on a 19-2 run that lasted nearly six minutes and saw the visitors claim a 64-52 lead with just under ten minutes to play.
The Peacocks cut the gap to seven points on two occassions thanks to a short 7-2 outburst on baskets by Tucker Wentzien, Jake Hughes and Cedric Collins, but UMD had the answer. The Bulldogs pushed their lead back out to its largest lead of 16 points, 77-61, with 2:22 to play.
UMD hit five of their free throws over the final two minutes to place the final margin at twelve, 82-70.

The Peacocks will return to Prochaska Court tomorrow for their final home game of 2011. Upper Iowa will host the Beavers of Bemidji State at approximately 8 p.m. following the women's game. Bemidji State lost to Winona State, 62-49, tonight in Winona, Minn. |
