Winona State dominated the second half of tonight's Northern Sun Conference opener in Fayette. The Warriors shot 65% in the second half to run away with a 27-point victory, 84-57. The loss drops UIU's record to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC, while Winona State improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Peacocks trailed by just five points with 2:20 to play in the first half after cutting down a WSU 12-point lead thanks to a 12-5 run over a four minute span. Winona State ended the half by scoring the final seven points and the team never looked back.
After just six minutes of the second half, Winona State had pushed their lead to 23 points, 57-34. The gap reached its widest margin of 30 points, 75-45, with 6:39 to play. In the end, the home team fell in their conference opener by an 84-57 count.

The Peacocks will return to Prochaska Court next weekend for two more NSIC games. Upper Iowa will host the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth on Friday and the Beavers of Bemidji State on Saturday. Both games are slated to tip at approximately 8 p.m. following the women's game. |
