Box Score
Upper Iowa scored the only goal in the first half, but the teams combined for four goals and a wild finish in the second half. The Peacocks tied the match at 2-2 with just over five minutes to play, but the Tigers got the gamewinner just three minutes later to steal the victory, 3-2, and drop UIU's record to 6-5-1, while improving to 7-2-1 themselves.
Derek Oelmann was fouled in the box after a long run and was awarded a penalty kick which he hammered into the top right corner of the net to give the home team a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.
The Tigers rallied in the second half with goals in the 57th and 64th to take a 2-1 lead and it looked like it would hold up as the game entered its final stages.
However, Upper Iowa had other ideas. Oelmann scored a second goal on a fast break thanks to an assist by
Andrew Youde, who played in his field for the first time this season. Youde is the primary goalie on the squad, but gave way to
Jordan Bell this afternoon. Oelmann raced past two defenders and then touched the ball past the Tiger keeper for the tying score in the 85th minute.
Fort Hays State didn't let the win get away from them though as the visitors scored the gamewinning goal in the 88th minute on a give and go.
The Tigers outshot the Peacocks 21-14 for the match.
Bell made 8 saves in the Peacock net.
Upper Iowa will face U-Mary next Saturday and Sioux Falls on Sunday in Bismarck, N.D. and Sioux Falls, S.D., respectively.
