The Truman State Bulldogs began their season as the #15 ranked team in preseason polls; but today in Kirksville, Upper Iowa completed the season sweep and won their rematch with Truman by a 3-1 score.
The win improves UIU's record to 6-3-1 and was highlighted by a pair of
Derek Oelmann goals, as the senior tries to put his scoring record out of reach. The win also runs the Peacock winning streak to five matches.
The Peacocks did their damage early with three goals in the opening twenty minutes.
Frank Atchison opened the game's scoring with a finish of a free kick taken by
Marco Garcia in the fourth minute. Just five minutes later Oelmann put his head to a Garcia corner kick to notch another goal and put the visitors up two. Oelmann found the back of the net again in the 19th minute as he struck a ball from
Jason Olsgard to give UIU a commanding lead.
The Bulldogs scored their lone goal in the 63rd minute as the only blemish on
Andrew Youde's day. The senior goalie made 6 saves for UIU as Truman outshot their guests 18-11.
Upper Iowa returns to Pattison Field this weekend where the team is a perfect 4-0. The Peacocks will host Grand View on Saturday and Fort Hays State on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. following the women's games.
