Men's Soccer Earns First Victory of 2010 in Rainy North Dakota

Upper Iowa 1 - U-Mary 0

The Upper Iowa Men's Soccer team closed out a stretch of four games in a matter of five days this afternoon by concluding their North Dakota roadtrip by playing the Marauders of the University of Mary. After playing even for the first 71 minutes of action in a steady rain, the Peacocks broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute to record their first victory of the season, 1-0.

Upper Iowa's Travis Willows broke the scoreless match in the 72nd minute of action after he struck a rocket of a shot from 35 yards out which found its way into the upper left corner of the net to give UIU a 1-0 lead late in the contest. U-Mary would only get the chance to shoot just once more in the match as UIU won the tilt, 1-0.

Willow's shot was the only shot on goal for Upper Iowa in the match as the Peacocks were outshot 10-8 but took more shot attempts in the second half, 5-4. UIU was caught offsides three more times than the Marauders and committed three more fouls than their opponents. Goalkeeper Jordan Bell turned away six shots in collecting his first victory of the season.

The Peacocks will open the home portion of the 2010 season this Friday when the Mustangs of Mt. Mercy University visit Pattison Field in Fayette for a women's/men's doubleheader. The Peacock Women's team is scheduled to play the Mustangs at 3 p.m.,with the men's match to follow at 5 p.m.
