This Week in Peacock Volleyball...
After a slow start to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season, the Upper Iowa Peacock Volleyball team gets a little dose of déjà-vu this week by playing a pair of matches against the same opponent.
On Tuesday, the Peacocks visit Winona, Minnesota to battle the Warriors of Winona State University. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start. Then on Friday, the Warriors and Peacocks meet again inside Dorman Gym in Fayette for a 7 p.m. clash.
Upper Iowa had a rough roadtrip last weekend as they dropped to 2-9 on the season and 0-3 in NSIC play after being defeated 3-0 on Friday night to Augustana and losing to #7-ranked Wayne State of Saturday, 3-1.
Scouting the Warriors
The Winona State Warriors enter the second week of NSIC play with a 5-6 overall record which includes an 0-3 mark in league play after being defeated by #7-ranked Wayne State and Augustana this past weekend.
The Warriors are currently on a three-match losing streak after dropping their NSIC opener last Tuesday to the Mavericks of Minnesota State, 3-0.
Warrior junior Shannon McGowan leads the NSIC in digs with 5.92 per match. As a team, WSU ranks fourth in digs with 16.64 per match
Series History
Since moving to NCAA Division II, the Peacocks are 1-11 against Winona State.
The Last Meeting
Upper Iowa has met the Warriors twice each season since becoming a member of NCAA Division II. Last season, the Peacocks earned their first win against WSU as a Division II program on October 30 as they swept the Warriors, 3-0.
In their last meeting in Winona, Minn. on November 10, the Peacocks were defeated 3-1.
Aces Wild
The Peacocks rank fourth in the NSIC in service aces with 1.62 per set. Upper Iowa ranks only behind Minnesota State, Wayne State and Northern State in this category.
Junior Sara Vance is ranked fourth in the NSIC in service aces with nearly a half ace per set (.48).
