The Peacocks’ offense continued to struggle tonight in Winona, Minn. as the team hit .052 for the match. The Warriors took advantage of the Upper Iowa hitting woes to pick up an NSIC victory in straight sets; 25-14, 25-23, 25-18. The loss drops Upper Iowa’s record to 2-10 on the season and 0-4 in conference. Winona State improves to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the NSIC.
UIU hitters only put down 5 kills while hitting 8 errors in the first set, while WSU drove home 9 kills to 3 just 3 errors. The numbers only improved slightly for the Peacocks as the match continued; the road team hit .065 and .162 in the second and third sets.
Kayla Wagner hit a team-high 7 kills, while Nicky Brown added 6. Skylar Lesan set up the hitters with 21 assists. Danielle Gernes tallied 15 digs on defense.
Upper Iowa will have an opportunity to avenge tonight’s loss on Friday when the Winona State travel south to Fayette. The Peacocks and Warriors will take the court at 7 p.m.
