UIU-Chadron State Box Score

UIU-Missouri Western State Box Score

After dropping both matches in Friday’s action of the Super 8/Days Inn & Suites “Middle of Everywhere” Classic hosted by Missouri S&T, the Peacocks were back on the court Saturday for a pair of matches to close out the Classic.

After defeating Chadron State in straight sets to open Saturday’s action, the Peacocks looked poised to defeat Missouri Western as well.  However, after going up two sets to one against Missouri Western State, the Peacocks stumbled in sets four and five to drop the contest and register a 1-3 record on the weekend.

In the first game, Upper Iowa wasted no time in downing the Eagles of Chadron State in three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-22.  Nicky Brown paced UIU with 11 kills while Sara Vance added 10.  The Peacocks posted a .292 hitting percentage against CSC.

Upper Iowa was looking to get their second victory of the day in the afternoon match against the Griffons of Missouri Western State before MWSU rallied to take sets four and five to steal the victory back from UIU, 3-2.

The Peacocks took advantage of a .250 team hitting percentage in the first set to take a 25-22 victory and rush out to a quick 1-0 lead in the match.  But MWSU rebounded nicely in the second set to mirror the score of the first set and tie things up at one set apiece.

UIU dominated set three by recording 13 kills to just one error en route to a 25-11 set three victory.  However, Missouri Western managed to win sets four and five by scores of 25-17 and 15-12 to take the contest, 3-2.

Brown once again led Upper Iowa with 14 kills while Vance added 13.  Bradley-transfer Skylar Lesan dished out 40 assists while recording 15 digs, one of four Peacocks which recorded double-digit numbers in digs.  Danielle Gernes (23), Brown (19) and Vance (16) joined Lesan with double digit dig numbers while Vance tallied four service aces.

With Saturday’s results, UIU moves to 2-6 in early season action.

The Peacocks will be back in action this Tuesday when they host the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State for their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener.  The volleyball action is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Dorman Gym in Fayette.
