The Peacock volleyball team opened their two-day run in the “Middle of Everywhere” Tournament hosted by Missouri S&T in Rolla, Missouri. Upper Iowa took the court against the host team in the first match this afternoon. The Miners defeated the Peacocks in four sets. The loss dropped UIU’s record to 1-4 on the season.
The host Miners dominated the first set winning by ten points, but the Peacocks rallied in set number two claiming a hard fought 26-24 win to tie the match at 1-1 before intermission. The third and fourth sets remained close, but Missouri S&T picked up wins in both to claim the match. The home team won by counts of 25-19 and 27-25 in the final set.
Upper Iowa’s offense continued to struggle as they registered a .169 hitting percentage with 47 kills and 23 hitting errors. Sara Vance and Kristy Hinrichs each tallied 11 kills to lead the UIU offense which was paced by Skylar Lesan’s 37 assists. Three players notched double figure digs; Nicky Brown (12), Danielle Gernes (11), and Vance (10). Maryn Fulton led UIU defense at the net with 4 assisted blocks.
The Peacocks return to the court one more time today; they will face the Panthers of Drury.
