This Week in Peacock Football...

The Upper Iowa Football squad kicks off the 2010 season Saturday when they travel to The Lone Star State to battle the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce. Kickoff at Memorial Stadium is set for 6 p.m.

Series History

This marks the first meeting between Upper Iowa and Texas A&M-Commerce and the first action for both squads for 2010.

Scouting the Lions

The Lions closed out the 2009 season with five-straight wins to win the LSC North Division have been selected as the pre-season favorites in the Lone Star Conference’s North Division again in 2010. Second-year head coach Guy Morriss and A&M-Commerce return seven all-LSC North Division selections including senior linebacker Cory Whitfield.

Whitfield, a Palestine, Texas native, was picked as the preseason LSC North Division Defensive Player of the Year. Whitfield led the Lions with 111 tackles last season, including six-straight games of double-digit tackles. In addition, he was third on the team with 13.5 tackles for minus yardage.

The selection of Whitfield marks the second-straight year that A&M-Commerce has been represented with the LSC North Division Defensive Player with William Green earning similar honors prior to the 2009 season.

Upper Iowa Peacock football can be heard throughout the 2010 season courtesy of AM 950-KOEL.

Play-by-play announcer Joe Stasi is in his eighth season as the "Voice of the Peacocks" and will be joined in Texas by color-man Wade Whitcher.

The pre-game show is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
