Peacock Soccer Teams Prepare to Open 2010 in North Dakota

Women

This Week in Peacock Soccer...

The Peacock Women’s Soccer team opens regular season play this Thursday and Friday by travelling to Jamestown, ND for a pair of matches against NAIA foes on back-to-back days.

On Thursday, the Peacocks battle the host Jimmies of Jamestown College at 5 p.m. Then on Friday, UIU takes on the Raiders of Northwestern College at 1 p.m.

Looking ahead, Upper Iowa opens the 2010 home schedule next Friday, Sept. 10 when the Mustangs of Mount Mercy University visit Pattison Field in Fayette. The women’s match is slated for 3 p.m. with the men’s match to follow at 5 p.m.

Scouting the Jimmies

The Jimmies enter Thursday’s match with a 0-2 record after dropping a pair of contests last week.

Last Sunday, Jamestown lost to the Golden Eagles of UM, Crookston 2-0. Then on Saturday they dropped their home opener to Dakota Wesleyan, 5-1.

Midfielder Hillary Bull is the only Jimmie with points as she scored the only goal of the season for Jamestown to this point.

Scouting the Raiders

The Northwestern College Raiders enter Friday’s match holding an 0-2 record after dropping both games in the Pizza Ranch Classic hosted by Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa.

On Friday, the Raiders lost to Ashford, 3-2, before dropping Saturday’s match to Cardinal Stritch, 3-2.

Series History

This marks the first meeting between UIU and Jamestown in women’s soccer since Upper Iowa moved to NCAA Division II.

The Peacocks are 1-1 against Northwestern College since transitioning to NCAA Division II.

The Last Meeting

Upper Iowa and Northwestern College last met on October 19, 2009 in Orange City, Iowa. The Peacocks won the match 3-0.

Men

This Week in Peacock Soccer...

The Upper Iowa Men’s Soccer team opens the 2010 season this Labor Day weekend with four games in five days.


On Thursday, the Peacocks travel to Jamestown, ND to battle the Jimmies of Jamestown College. Opening kick is slated for 7 p.m.

Following that match, the Peacocks travel to Bismarck for three games against NCAA Division II and Central Region opponents.

Scouting the Jimmies


The Jimmies of Jamestown College finished 2009 with a 2-15 record and are fresh off of a season opening 1-1 tie against Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday.

Scouting the Rangers

Regis is coming off a season in which they finished in fourth place and fell to Fort Lewis in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.

The Rangers compiled a 9-6-4 overall record in head coach Tony McCall’s first season, while going 7-3-4 in RMAC action.

Regis is picked to finish fourth in the RMAC for the 2010 season.

Scouting the Roadrunners

The Metro State men’s soccer team was picked to finish third in the RMAC in the preseason coaches poll released on Thursday. Senior midfielder Steven Emory was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year.

The Roadrunners finished third a year ago with an overall mark of 11-7-3, including 8-4-2 in the RMAC, narrowly missing their fifth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Scouting the Marauders

The U-Mary Marauders finished 2009 with a 8-10-2 record. Junior forward Nikola Nikolic led U-Mary with 10 goals last season and was named First-Team All-Central Region in ‘09.

Series History

The matches versus Jamestown, Regis and Metro State marks the first time Upper Iowa has played these schools in men’s soccer since moving to NCAA Division II.

The Peacocks are 2-2-0 against the Marauders of U-Mary since moving to NCAA Division II. 

Upper Iowa and U-Mary last met on November 1, 2009 in Bismarck, ND. Upper Iowa defeated U-Mary 2-0 in that match which marked the final match of the 2009 season for both squads.

Derek Oelmann and Zach Castor recorded goals in the November 1 match, both goals were unassisted.
