Upper Iowa @ Augustana
This Week in Peacock Football...
The Upper Iowa Football team closes out the 2010 season Saturday afternoon when they travel to Sioux Falls, SD to battle the #14-ranked Vikings of Augustana College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Kirkeby-Over Stadium in Sioux Falls.
Last Time Out: The Peacocks dropped last Saturday’s game at Concordia-St. Paul, 56-7. The defeat dropped UIU’s record to 2-8 on the season and 1-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s South Division.
Scouting the #14 Vikings
One week after Wayne State dropped a NSIC South Division matchup to Upper Iowa, the Wildcats rebounded by defeating the then #7-ranked and previously unbeaten Vikings of Augustana College, 26-14 in Wayne, Nebraska.
The now #14-ranked Vikings enter Saturday’s contest with a 9-1 record overall and an 8-1 mark in NSIC action (4-1 in NSIC South matchups).
Augustana boasts the fourth-best scoring offense in the NSIC (29.5 points per game) and the second most stingiest defense in the league (15.2 points per game).
The Vikings air attack is one of the most potent in the league as they rank second in passing offense at 236.7 yards per contest.
Series History
Since transitioning to NCAA Division II and joining the NSIC, Upper Iowa and Augustana have met three times with the Vikings taking all three contests by a combined score of 135-34.
The Last Meeting
The Peacocks and Vikings met last season on October 17 in Sioux Falls, SD. Augie won the matchup, 41-21.
Life on the Road
The Peacock Football team has racked up a few miles on the road this season in just their first three road contests.
Upper Iowa has travelled 4,220 miles after this weekend. To put that in perspective, if you were able to drive a car from Fayette to Honolulu, Hawaii, you would drive just over 4,000 miles.
This weekend, the Peacocks will add another 629 miles to that tally when they visit Sioux Falls.
Connecting to Hubbard
Upper Iowa’s Jessie Hubbard ranks as the second most prolific receiver in the NSIC this season. The junior wide receiver averages five catches per game and gains on average 11.8 yards per catch.
Protecting the QB
The Peacock quarterbacks are the third least sacked in the NSIC. The Upper Iowa offensive line has allowed just 16 sacks all season. Only Minnesota State and Minnesota Duluth have allowed less.
Radio
Upper Iowa Peacock football can be heard throughout the 2010 season courtesy of AM 950-KOEL.
Play-by-play announcer Joe Stasi is in his eighth season as the “Voice of the Peacocks” and will be joined by UIU Director of Sports Communications Howard Thompson in Sioux Falls.
