Box Score

The Peacock volleyball team welcomed the Vikings of Augustana to Dorman Gym tonight determined to show their true colors. While Augustana dominated the first match in mid-September, Upper Iowa fought hard in the match tonight forcing the second set to extra points before falling, 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-23).

Upper Iowa and Augustana were tied at 13 apiece in the first set when the Vikings got hot and closed the frame out with a 12-4 run. Augie used 17 kills and 3 service aces to score the bulk of their points, while UIU posted 10 kills and hit .222 with only a pair of hitting errors.

The two teams opened the second set equally well and were deadlocked at 15-15 when the Peacocks broke away thanks to a 5-0 run which included two Maryn Fulton kills. Augustana did not let the home team get away as they rallied from behind to claim a 23-22 lead. The set went to extra points, but Upper Iowa was unable to take advantage of their one set-point opportunity and fell 29-27.

The third set started the same way for both teams as they battled back and forth throughout the majority of the set. Trailing 23-21, Kayla Wagner tallied a pair of kills to pull the Peacocks back to even. Unfortunately, Augustana claimed the set, 25-23, and the match in straight sets.

Sara Vance, the current NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, recorded 13 kills and 7 digs, while Skylar Lesan handed out 29 assists. The UIU middles, Fulton and Wagner, combined for 13 kills and 5 blocks. Nicky Brown led the defense with 18 digs, while senior Alex Fink racked up 9.

The Peacocks will remain home tomorrow afternoon for their final home match of the season against #4 Wayne State. The Wildcats won the teams’ previous match up in Wayne 3-1. Game time is set for 3 p.m. Upper Iowa will honor their seniors prior to the match.
