This Week in Peacock Football...
Upper Iowa celebrates Homecoming this Saturday at Eb Eischeid Stadium by welcoming the Golden Eagles of UM, Crookston. Kickoff for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference clash is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Fayette.
Last Time Out: The Peacocks travelled to Bemidji, Minnesota last Saturday to match up with the Beavers of Bemidji State. Upper Iowa fell behind early as the Beavers collected a 51-12 victory.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
After winning the opening game of the 2010 season, the Golden Eagles of UM, Crookston have lost four in a row and enter Saturday’s matchup with a 1-4 record which includes an 0-4 mark in NSIC play.
Last Saturday, the Golden Eagles were defeated by U-Mary 48-0 in Bismarck, ND.
The Golden Eagles rank near the bottom in almost every NSIC statistical category including scoring offense (14th), scoring defense (13th), passing offense (14th), rushing offense (11th), and total offense (14th).
Series History
The Peacocks have never lost to the Golden Eagles since transitioning to NCAA Division II. Upper Iowa is 5-0 against UMC.
The Last Meeting
The Peacocks and Golden Eagles met in the final game of the 2009 season on November 7. For the second year in a row, the teams played a back-and-forth contest and at the end, UIU came out on top of a 39-33 decision.
Life on the Road
The Peacock Football team has tallied up quite a few miles on the road this season in just their first three road contests.
Upper Iowa visited Commerce, Texas (1,659 miles roundtrip) for their first game and travelled to Moorhead, Minn. (946 miles roundtrip) for their first NSIC road trip. Last weekend, the Peacocks travelled another 842 miles roundtrip for the game against Bemidji State.
So far this season, UIU has travelled 3,447 miles by bus. Fortunately for the Peacocks, their last three road games are in Mankato (390 miles rt), St. Paul (382 miles rt) and Sioux Falls (629 miles rt).
