The Peacock volleyball team carried over the success they had last night into today's match with the Dragons of MSU Moorhead. After dropping the first set 27-25, Upper Iowa won the next three sets to claim a 3-1 victory and improve to 8-17 overall. UIU is 6-3 inside the lines at Dorman Gym this season.
After the two-point, first set loss, the Peacocks rallied to win a tight second set 25-23. The Peacocks drove home 16 kills in the set while hitting .257. UIU dominated the third set winning 25-17 with a .423 hitting percentage and then edged their guests 25-22 in the final set to post the match win.
Sara Vance led the UIU offense which tallied 56 kills. The junior knocked home 17 kills and 8 service aces, while adding 12 digs as well. Skylar Lesan was also impressive recording 12 kills and 37 assists. Nicky Brown also reached double figures in kills with 10. Kayla Wagner added 9 kills and 2 blocks in the middle. Danielle Gernes played well on defense as well picking up 12 digs on the afternoon.
In total the Peacocks claimed a 14-3 advantage in service aces. Alex Fink added four of her own for UIU.
Upper Iowa (8-17, 5-11 NSIC) will stay at home next weekend for a pair of matches with Augustana and current #1 Wayne State. Friday's match will begin at 7 p.m. against the Vikings, while Saturday's contest will start at 3 p.m. with the Wildcats.
