This Week in Peacock Soccer...
A busy week awaits the Upper Iowa Women’s Soccer team. The Peacocks play their final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday while hosting a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches this weekend.
On Tuesday, the Peacocks travel to St. Louis, Mo. to battle the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis in their final non-conference action of the 2010 season.
This weekend, the Peacocks return to NSIC play when U-Mary and Northern State make the trip to Fayette. Friday’s matchup with the Marauders is scheduled for 3 p.m. while Sunday’s contest with Northern State is slated for 1 p.m.
UIU lost both NSIC road matches last weekend to fall to 2-4-1 in league play.
Scouting the Tritons
The Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis enters Tuesday’s match with a 5-4-2 record which includes a 4-4-2 mark in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. UMSL won their last match, 3-1, over Maryville University
Scouting the Marauders
The University of Mary enters Friday’s match with a 3-6-4 overall record and a 2-3-3 NSIC record. The Marauders dropped both NSIC contests last weekend to Minnesota Duluth (3-0) and Bemidji State in overtime (2-1).
Scouting the Wolves
Northern State also dropped both contests last weekend and enter Friday’s match at Winona State with a 5-4-4 record overall and a 3-2-3 mark in NSIC play. The Wolves lost in overtime to Bemidji State, 2-1, last Saturday before losing 1-0 to the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday.
Series History
Since transitioning to NCAA Division II, the Peacocks are 0-2-0 against Missouri-St. Louis, 3-1-0 versus against U-Mary and 0-3-3 when playing Northern State.
The Last Meeting
The last time UIU and UMSL met in women’s soccer came on October 14, 2005 in St. Louis, Mo. The Tritons defeated Upper Iowa, 5-2.
UIU played U-Mary and Northern State last on October 31 and November 1 of last season. The Peacocks and Wolves played to a 2-2 draw on Halloween before UIU dropped their final contest of 2009 to U-Mary 1-0 the next afternoon.
Tournament Hopes
The Peacocks currently sit in tenth place in the NSIC standings and hold seven points through league results. This weekend’s opponents, U-Mary and Northern State are in ninth place and fifth place, respectively.
The top eight teams in points will recieve invitations to the 2010 NSIC Women’s Soccer Tournament. Each NSIC win is worth three points while a tie earns both teams one point.
Dishing the Rock
The Peacocks are the third-most prolific passing team in the NSIC as they average 1.73 assists per game ranking them third in the league in the assist per game category.
This Week in Peacock Soccer...
Following Monday’s loss to Truman State, the Peacock Men’s Soccer team looks to rebound with two matches in the remainder of the week.
Just 29 hours after the Truman State match, the Peacocks will be kicking off another match in Missouri when they visit St. Louis to battle the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons. The contest at Don Dallas Field is slated for 7:30 p.m.
UIU closes out the week with the final home match of 2010 when the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose visit Pattison Field in Fayette for a 3 p.m. clash.
Looking ahead, the Peacocks close out the 2010 slate with a pair of Wednesday matches. On October 20, UIU travels to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to battle Iowa Wesleyan and on October 27, Upper Iowa closes out the season against Clarke.
Scouting the Tritons
The Tritons of the University of Missouri-St. Louis enters Tuesday’s matchup with a 5-5-2 record which includes a 4-4-2 mark in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
UMSL has won just one time in their last four matches. The Tritons won at Maryville University in their last outing, 1-0.
Scouting the Bees
The Bees of St. Ambrose enter Wednesday’s matchup with Ashford carrying a 5-7-2 record overall and a 2-3-1 mark in Midwest Classic Conference matches. St. Ambrose has won two of their last three matches which includes a 5-3 victory over Waldorf in their last outing.
Series History
Since Upper Iowa transitioned to NCAA Division II, the Peacocks are 0-3-1 against the Tritons of UMSL. Upper Iowa and St. Ambrose have not met since the Peacocks left the NCAA Division III ranks.
The Last Meeting
The Peacocks and Tritons last met on Oct. 12, 2009 in Fayette. UMSL won the contest, 3-1.
G-OEL!!!
Peacock forward Derek Oelmann recorded his second hat trick of the 2010 season on October 6 against St. Mary’s. UIU defeated the Cardinals 4-1 in that contest.
The junior has tallied 12 of UIU’s 19 goals this season.
