Brooke Redmond was named Northern Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year after posting a 3-0 record this week. This is the fourteenth award for Upper Iowa this year, and the second for the Peacock softball team.

Redmond capped off a perfect 3-0 weekend this past Saturday with a 7-6 victory in extra innings over BSU. Redmond allowed a total of just 14 hits through 20 and two-thirds innings, while striking out 23 batters and finishing the week with a 0.34 ERA. The three wins gives her 14 victories in a single season for the second straight year.

The southpaw began the week with a complete-game shutout against the 17th-ranked Vikings of Augustana as she allowed just five hits, while striking out seven and walking only one. Her dominant performance for the pitching circle helped the Peacocks pull off the split with Augie. Remond then followed that up with a near perfect game on Friday against Minnesota Crookston. She threw four complete innings without giving up a single run or hit to the Golden Eagles before UMC finally earned a hit in the fifth. She was still able to pick up the win, 14-1, and rack up eight strikeouts - just two shy of her career high.

On Saturday, the Basehor, Kansas native threw 9.2 innings against Bemidji State as the Peacocks came from behind to earn a 7-6 victory in ten innings. Her 23 total strikeouts bumps her up to 12th in the NSIC with 113 total this year. She also ranks 13th with a 3.00 ERA this year and 15th in opposing batting average (.264).

Now, with a five-game win streak under their belts, the Peacocks will look ahead to the 2014 NSIC Softball Tournament which begins this Thursday. The NSIC released the 2014 Softball Tournament bracket on Saturday night as each team finished up the regular season.  The top ten teams in the final regular season standings will participate in the double-elimination tournament, which will be held May 1-3 at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls, S.D. Upper Iowa drew the nine seed, which means the Peacocks will face eighth-seeded Minot State in a play-in game on Thursday at 10 a.m.
