Bailee Haberman hit .455 for UIU with 5 hits in 11 at bats including a pair of doubles. The senior drove in two runs and scored twice against the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines.
Jenna Hermsen threw seven innings in a 1-0 extra inning loss against Colorado School of Mines on Saturday. Hermsen posted a 1.29 ERA in her only start of the weekend allowing the solo run on a homerun in the eighth inning. In the game, she gave up only four hits while striking out four batters and holding the Orediggers to a .154 average.
Upper Iowa finished their opening weekend with a 1-2 record in Golden, Colo. The Peacocks won game one, 8-7, before falling to Colorado School of Mines by 1-0 (8) and 2-0 decisions. The team was led by Haberman, Jacqueline Flood (.375, 3 hits, 1 rbi) and Hailley Haning (.300, 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 rbi) at the plate. On the rubber, UIU pitched well in games two and three. For the weekend the staff registered a 3.60 ERA allowing 10 runs in 20 innings. Flood earned the game one win with 6 innings of work and Brooklyn Koranda came in to earn the save. Brooke Redmond took the loss on Sunday but also made an appearance on Saturday, prior to Koranda recording the final out in game one. The freshman posted a 2.70 ERA in her 6.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven batters.
On Friday, UIU will head north to Rochester, Minnesota to take part in the NSIC/MIAA Crossover Tournament. The Peacocks will play the University of Nebraska-Kearney on Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m., before UIU faces Truman State, Fort Hays State and Northwest Missouri State on Saturday. The Peacocks will finish up the weekend against Lindenwood University on Sunday.
