Priot to UIU, Honeycutt and his wife coached the Yellow Jackets at Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D during the 2022-23 seasons. Before his time at BHSU, Honeycutt was the Assistant Softball Coach at the University of Nebraska-Kearney from 2019-21.

In his time there, Honeycutt instituted a structured hitting program in the fall of 2019 and UNK managed a .324 team batting average during the shortened 2020 season. That included two players batting over .425, 63 extra base hits and an average of 5.6 runs a game.

Honeycutt was also a student-athlete with Nebraska-Kearney as a member of the baseball team from 2011-16. During his time there, he appeared in 102 games between 2013-16 as an outfielder and first baseman and was a four-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll qualifier and a 2016 All-MIAA Honorable mention.
