Upper Iowa University Athletics

Mike Caniglia enters his fifth season with the Upper Iowa football program in 2019, and his fourth season as the running backs coach after switching from defensive backs in 2016. Caniglia, who has coached the special teams in previous seasons, will now share video coordinator duties. Caniglia came to the Peacocks and Fayette from Orebro, Sweden where he was the head coach of the Orebro Black Knights.
 
Before his one season with the Black Knights, Caniglia spent four seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Dakota State University. He coached the special teams and the secondary for the Trojans. The stint with Dakota State was his second; Caniglia worked with the Trojans from 1991-1993 as the defensive coordinator and special teams coach.
 
Caniglia’s coaching resume includes stops coaching the secondary with the New Orleans Saints as a guest coach, the University of Idaho and Arizona Western College. He also served as a special teams and wide receivers coach at the University of Wyoming and worked with the linebackers at Arizona State University. He also served as the defensive coordinator at East, Central, St. Monica and Kingman High Schools and served as an Athletic Director at FCS/Jeffery Wardle and St. Mary’s High School.
 
Caniglia earned a Master of Science Degree in athletic administration at the University of Wyoming in 1989 during his time with the Cowboy football team program. He completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree in physical education in 1987 at Southern California College after studying at Northern Arizona University and Golden West College earlier in his academic career. Caniglia was a linebacker for both Northern Arizona and Golden West during his time on their campuses.
