Andy Merfeld enters his fourth season in 2018-19 with the Peacock football program as Upper Iowa's defensive backs coach. He also share video coordinator duties with Mike Caniglia.

Merfeld came to Fayette from the University of Minnesota Duluth, a perennial power in the Northern Sun Conference and NCAA Division II. From 2013-15, Merfeld was a graduate assistant with the Bulldogs working with team's defensive secondary.

Prior to his stint with Minnesota Duluth, Merfeld spent eight seasons at Edgewood High School in Madison, Wis. serving as the team's defensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach. During his time with the Crusaders, Edgewood earned eight straight Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association berths and, in 2011, established a program record for wins (10) while advancing to the WIAA State Tournament semifinals.

A three-sport athlete in football, hockey and baseball at Edgewood High School and an All-Badger South Conference linebacker, Merfeld went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, where he graduated in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. While working with the Bulldogs the last two years, Merfeld pursued his master's degree in Education.
