FAYETTE, Iowa - Peacock women's soccer (0-4-2, 0-4 GLVC) battled Lincoln (Mo.) (3-3, 2-2 GLVC) on Wednesday evening, but Lincoln's Tetee Jallah scored in the 80th minute to win the match for the Blue Tigers. UIU's Giovanna Alexa Garcia totaled three shots with two on goal to lead the Peacocks, while sophomore Avery Harding totaled six saves at goalkeeper.
Jallah's goal came after a monster kick by goalkeeper Kanon Dehama to the opposing 40-yard line. After a bounce, Jallah took possession, dribbled up 10 yards, and scored from 30 yards out over Harding.
UIU had a few key opportunities with pressure to start the second half, starting with a shot by Aeryn Hatico off the left post three minutes in. Eight minutes later, a pass from Jessica Ancheta up the middle drew Dehama out of the goal. Maryn Hudson got the ball to Alexa Garcia after colliding in the middle of the field with Dehama.
The senior lined up a shot on the net to the bottom left corner, but Lincoln's Adia Able came in at the final second to make the team save, keeping the game scoreless. Dehama received a yellow card on the play for the collision.
Lincoln outshot Upper Iowa 15-7 with a 10-2 margin in the first half. Both teams were even in the second half with five shots each. LU totaled seven shots on goal to UIU's four. The game featured just one corner kick, taken by the Blue Tigers.
The Blue Tigers totaled 10 fouls to UIU's five with a 7-2 second-half difference. Lincoln had two yellow cards and Upper Iowa had one.
Natasha Toxqui added two shots with one on goal for the Peacocks. Her shot on goal came in the 35th minute. Aeryn Hatico had the same stat line, with her shot on goal coming in the 18th minute for UIU's first of the game.
Harding totaled six saves, while Dehama had three for Lincoln. Taylor Marie Inocelda-Bihag, Rhea Buchanan and Stephany Castillo played all 90 minutes on defense.
Upper Iowa hits the road for a weekend matchup against William Jewell (Mo.) (0-6, 0-3 GLVC) in Liberty, Missouri. The Peacocks and Cardinals will kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
