Men’s wrestling battles Drury for Senior Night on Thursday

Peacocks close GLVC regular season play with Panthers

FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa men's wrestling (5-5, 3-1 GLVC) wraps up regular season GLVC competition on Thursday, Feb. 5, against Drury (Mo.) (2-10, 0-4 GLVC). The Peacocks will honor four seniors in Hunter Bye, Ethen Doty, Reily Dolan and Lucas Henderson before the match for Senior Night.

TICKET INFORMATION
New this year, tickets for all Peacock home events can be purchased digitally at tickets.uiu.edu. Single game tickets are now available online and at the ticket booth on gameday. If you want to pay in person, both Harms-Eischeid Stadium and Dorman Memorial Gymnasium are now accepting all major credit cards, checks and cash.

DIGITAL GAMEDAY PROGRAMS
Fans can access the interactive and digital gameday program any time at UIUPeacocks.com/Programs. The digital programs are available to fans at our games and to those watching at home. QR Codes will be located around the gym to scan with your cell phone's camera, which will link you directly to that game's specific digital gameday program.

LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks competed this past weekend at the Loras College Open before picking up a 46-0 win on Mike Olson Alumni Day vs. Quincy (Ill.) (8-5, 1-3 GLVC). The win over the Hawks marked UIU's second shutout win this season.

Five Peacock wrestlers placed at Saturday's Loras Open as Owen Denstad (149) and Geoffery Freeman (285) both led the Peacocks on the day in third place. Dolan (165) and Henderson (174) both took fifth, while James Lovelady (141) placed sixth. 

Freeman and Denstad both won four matches, with Freeman winning two matches with bonus-point victories. Cale Nash (149), Kale Hansen (157) and Collin Altensey (157) also picked up four wins on the day.

Treyton Ackman (125), Tanner Arjes (141), No. 8 Doty (149), Preston Klostermann (157), Griffin Luke (174), No. 15 Braxten Westendorf (184) and Matthew Marcum (197) all picked up bonus-point wins in Sunday's win against Quincy. Arjes and Doty each recorded wins via fall. 

Nick Mueller (165), Dawson Schmit (133) and Hunter Bye (285) each recorded decision wins. Arjes, Doty and Luke improved to 4-0 in GLVC competition. 

THE OPEN MAT RANKINGS
In last week's Open Mat Rankings, Upper Iowa totaled three ranked wrestlers. Doty was the top-ranked wrestler for the Peacocks, coming in at No. 7 at 149 pounds. He moved up one spot from the week before after improving his record to 17-4. 

Luke picked up his first appearance in the rankings, coming in at No. 13 at 174 pounds. Westendorf is ranked No. 16 at 184 pounds. 

NWCA RANKINGS
The Peacocks had three ranked wrestlers in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings released on Jan. 22. Doty, Lawson Losee (174) and Westendorf earned rankings. 

Doty was the highest-ranked wrestler, coming in at No. 8 at 149 pounds. Losee is ranked No. 10 at 174 pounds, while Westendorf earned his first ranking of the season at No. 15 at 184 pounds. 

In the team ranking, the Peacocks were at the top in the receiving votes category of the poll, coming in with 9.5 points. In the GLVC, McKendree and UIndy are ranked No. 8 and No. 25, respectively. Quincy received seven points, and Maryville (Mo.) received 1.5 points. 

Central Oklahoma remains the top team in the poll with 90.5 points and nine individuals ranked. Nebraska-Kearney is No. 2 with 81.5 points and nine ranked individuals. Gannon (Pa.) is third with 65 points, Grand Valley State (Mich.) is fourth with 63 points and Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.) is fifth with 62 points. 

AROUND THE GLVC
No. 8 McKendree (10-5, 4-0 GLVC) is in first place in the conference. The Bearcats host No. 25 UIndy (2-4, 2-2 GLVC) on Thursday in Lebanon, Ill. 

ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Drury enters Thursday's matchup on a five-dual losing streak. The Panthers last won a dual on Dec. 6, 2025, against Labette CC (Kan.). Drury took on No. 1 Central Oklahoma this past Friday, Jan. 30, and lost 36-13. 

The Panthers do not have any NWCA or Open Mat-ranked wrestlers. Heavyweight wrestler Brady Griffin has the most wins for the Panthers this season with a 20-11 record. At 125, Bryson Humphries has also been steady with a 16-8 record.

At 174, Jeremiah Halter comes in with a 16-14 record. Sophomore Cole Robertson (197) enters Thursday at 15-9, while Nathan Wishne (141) has a 15-10 record. 

Head coach James Reynolds is in his 10th year with the Panthers after joining for the program's inaugural season in 2016-17. During his time with Drury, he's helped produce nine wrestlers who have advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championships. He has also had three NCAA Division II All-Americans, 23 All-GLVC selections and two GLVC Freshman of the Year award winners.
