The Peacocks hit the century mark for the second time in Saturday's 106-90 victory over Maryville

Senior Lewis shines with team-high 21 points on Senior Night

FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa  (16-8, 11-6 GLVC) scored a season-high 106 points in Saturday's Senior Day win over Maryville (Mo.) (3-22, 1-16 GLVC). All of UIU's starters recorded double figures in scoring, with Trey Lewis leading the team with 21 points. 

Upper Iowa was a solid 21-of-39 (53.8%) from the floor, 8-of-17 (47.1%) from deep in the first half. MU was 13-of-31 from the field (41.9%) and 2-of-9 (22.2%) from behind the arc, which gave the Peacocks a 57-34 halftime lead. 

Five minutes into the half, Jack Miller mustered his own 8-0 run, giving UIU an 18-8 lead with 13:38. His run started with a layup, before ending with two straight 3-pointers. 

The Peacocks shot made four of their next nine 3-pointers with a 14-of-22 (63.6%) mark from the field, taking a 55-32 advantage with 2:10 to go in the half. The Saints shot 2-of-7 (28.6%) on 3-pointers and 8-of-19 (42.1%) on field goal attempts during this 11-minute stretch. Austin Hilmer was the leading scorer for UIU with nine points. 

Upper Iowa managed to hold onto its 23-point lead going into the half. Miller was the game's leading scorer at the break with 12 points, shooting 4-for-6 (66.7%) from the field and 2-for-4 (50%) from three. 

The Saints opened the second half on a 21-6 run over the first five minutes, trimming the deficit to eight. During the stretch, MU shot 8-of-13 (61.5%) from the field and 3-of-4 (75%) from beyond the arc, while UIU went 2-of-8 (25%) with a 3-pointer. 

Lewis answered with a 3-pointer a few possessions later, and Tate Petersen forced a turnover that he turned into a three of his own 14 seconds later, pushing the Peacocks' lead back to 69-55 with 14 minutes remaining.

Maryville cut the lead down to single digits a couple more times in the second half, but Maryville missed free throws and foul trouble assisted Upper Iowa in securing the 106-90 win. UIU shot 12-for-15 from the charity stripe, while MU shot 6-for-11 (54.5%) during the last 14 minutes. UIU also forced seven turnovers, including four steals, and turned the ball over twice. 

Lewis was the leading scorer in the second half with 13 points, making 5-of-7 (71.4%) of his shots and all four of his free throws. The senior totaled 21 points on the night. He also added four rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. Petersen posted 20 points, six rebounds, a season-high six assists and a steal. 

Miller finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and an assist. Kyle Hrncir had 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Cael Reichter recorded 12 points, six rebounds, two steals, two blocks and an assist. He also drew a game-high seven fouls. 

Hilmer had nine points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Anton Fontin recorded five points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Ashton Hermann had three points, five rebounds, a steal and an assist. Senior William Spielbauer scored the final bucket of the game, marking his first career points. 

Henry Sanchez led the MU in scoring with 25. Noah Courtney had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Kobe Clark dished a game-high 11 assists. 

The Peacocks shot 36-for-76 (47.4%) from the field, 14-for-30 (46.7%) from three and 20-for-30 (66.7%) from the free-throw line. The Saints went 33-for-66 (50%) from the floor, 10-for-23 (43.5%) from beyond the arc and 14-for-23 (60.9%) from the charity stripe. 

Upper Iowa scored 27 points off turnovers, compared to Maryville's 12. UIU also led 21-10 in second-chance points and 45-37 in rebounds. MU outscored UIU, 38-34, in the paint. There were a total of 44 fouls in the game, 23 by the Saints and 21 by the Peacocks.

This is the second time this season UIU has scored 100 or more points after scoring 103 against Clarke on Dec. 14, 2025. This is the most for the Peacocks since last season's Maryville game on Jan. 5, 2025, in a 108-105 win. 

The Peacocks honored Lewis, Hilmer, Spielbauer and Trey Kriener before the game for Senior Day. 

Upper Iowa is in seventh in the GLVC point rating system after the weekend with a 3.35 rating. The Peacocks are ahead of Missouri-St. Louis (15-11, 9-8 GLVC) in eighth with a 3.06 rating, and Truman State (Mo.) (10-14, 7-9 GLVC) is in ninth with a 2.97 rating. The top eight teams make the GLVC Tournament. 

UIU returns on the road to face a pair of GLVC opponents in Illinois. The Peacocks play No. 23 McKendree (19-4, 12-4 GLVC) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Illinois-Springfield (15-9, 11-5 GLVC) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
