CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Upper Iowa men's wrestling (1-3) battled hard but fell to No. 6 Tiffin (Ohio) (3-1) and No. 8 McKendree (Ill.) (5-3) at the NWCA National Duals on Friday. The Dragons won by a score of 21-16, and the Bearcats won, 24-19 in the UNI-Dome.Â

No. 5 Ethen Doty (149) and Braxten Westendorf (184) went undefeated on the day for the Peacocks. Doty picked up wins via fall and technical fall and improved his record to 14-3 on the season.Â
Westendorf won in a major decision and by technical fall. He upset No. 12 David Davis of Tiffin, 9-1. The redshirt freshman has now won six of his last seven matches and has a 17-4 record this season.Â
Going 1-1 for the Peacocks were Dawson Schmit (133), Griffin Luke (174) and Matthew Marcum (197/285). Treyton Ackman (125) and Tanner Arjes (141) won their only matches of the day.Â
Upper Iowa will compete in the 13-16 place bracket on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. on Mat 11 against No. 25 King (Tenn.) (6-6). The Peacocks will either face West Liberty (W.V.) (5-5) or GLVC foe Maryville (Mo.) (3-6) at 1 p.m. to wrap up the duals.Â
No. 6 Tiffin 22, No. 21 Upper Iowa 16
Schmit (133) picked up the first win for the Peacocks, defeating Cael Woods in an 8-4 decision. After trailing 4-0 heading into the final period, Schmit tallied an escape, a three-point takedown and a four-point nearfall to win.Â
Doty (149) then picked up a quick fall in 1:06 over Maddox Simcoe. Westendorf (184) upset No. 12 David Davis in a 9-1 major decision, scoring six points in the final period.Â
At 197, Marcum won a thriller over Max Milian in a sudden victory. Millin picked up a point in the second period with a one-point penalty, while Marcum tied it up at the end with riding time. Marcum recorded a takedown at 1:04 to get the overtime win.Â
The match of the dual was between Preston Klostermann and No. 5 Casey Barnett at 157. Klostermann went up 7-0 early, but then Barnett scored nine straight points to lead 9-7. In the third period, Klostermann recorded a takedown, but Barnett kept it even at 11-11. Riding time gave Barnett the 12-11 victory. Â
No. 4 Anthony Anciete (125), Bret Minnick (141), No. 1 Nolan Gessler (165), No. 15 Emilio Arellano (174) and No. 6 Jake Powell (285) also picked up wins for the Dragons. Tiffin had four wins by major decision.Â

Ackman (125) opened the matchup with a 2-0 decision victory over Giovanni Diaz. Both wrestlers were tied 0-0 entering the final period. Ackman scored on an escape seven seconds into the third period, and earned his second point on riding time.Â
Arjes (141) won in a major decision against Bradley Ruckman after picking up takedowns in each of the first two periods. He also added a two-point nearfall in the third period.Â
Doty (149) added to his impressive day with a 15-0 tech fall victory. He started with a takedown 10 seconds into the match and added two four-point nearfalls in the opening period. A second-period takedown earned the tech fall.Â
At 157, Klostermann battled once again with a nationally ranked wrestler, No. 14 Cale Hoskinson. Trailing 2-0 in the third period, Klostermann picked up a takedown with 37 seconds left. Hoskinson then escaped and won on riding time, 4-3.Â
Luke (174) scored a two-point reversal and added riding time for a 7-5 victory against Shamon Handegan. Westendorf outscored Ridge Schutte 9-2 in the third period with two takedowns and a three-point nearfall to secure the tech fall win. This gave the Peacocks a 19-15 advantage entering the last two matches.Â
No. 5 Logan Kvien picked up a tech fall win for McKendree at 197 to take a 20-19 lead. At 285, Casey Olszowka won in a major decision to secure the Bearcat victory.Â
