CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Upper Iowa men's wrestling (2-4) finished in 14th at the NWCA Duals after going 1-1 on Saturday at the UNI-Dome. The Peacocks defeated No. 25 King (Tenn.) (6-8), 21-18, but fell to West Liberty (W.V.) (7-5), 25-14. 

Braxten Westendorf (184) finished the weekend a perfect 4-0 at 184 pounds, including a win on Friday against No. 12 David Davis of Tiffin (Ohio). On Saturday, Westendorf won in a 10-2 major decision against Luke Justice (King) and won in overtime vs. Gabe Blissenbach (West Liberty). The redshirt freshman has won eight of his last nine matches, and has a 19-4 record this season. 

Dawson Schmit (133) also went 2-0 on Saturday, finishing the weekend 3-1. His highlight win was against No. 13 James Armstrong Jr. of West Liberty, winning in a 9-8 decision. He has a 12-9 record this season. 

Treyton Ackman (125), Owen Denstad (149) and Nick Mueller (165) all won their only matches of the day. Ackman recorded a tech fall win, and Mueller won via fall. Preston Klostermann (157) and Matthew Marcum (197) went 1-1 on the day. 

No. 1 Central Oklahoma won the NWCA Duals with a 22-12 victory over No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney. No. 8 McKendree was the highest-finishing GLVC team in 11th place. 

The Peacocks will gear up for conference play starting on Friday, Jan. 16, against Maryville (Mo.) (4-7) at 7 p.m. in St. Louis. The Saints also went 1-3 at the NWCA Duals to finish in 15th. 

No. 21 Upper Iowa 21, No. 25 King 18
Ackman started off the dual with a 17-0 tech fall win, totaling a takedown and three four-point nearfalls. Schmit then defeated Alex Fernandez III at 133 pounds, picking up a takedown in the second period and an escape with a takedown in the third period. 

The top-ranked matchup of the dual was between UIU's No. 5 Ethen Doty and King's Brennan Watkins, who is ranked No. 1 in The Open Mat rankings. Watkins recorded takedowns in both the second and third periods to win, 6-0. 

Klostermann recorded four takedowns to defeat Joe Bertand at 157 pounds, 13-7. Nick Mueller was up 12-1 before winning with a fall against Sayfore Sieh at 165. Griffin Luke battled hard and recorded two escapes vs. No. 4 Clint Morrisette at 174, but fell in overtime, 5-2. 

Westendorf tallied three takedowns to win in a major decision over Luke Justice. No. 15 David Bertrand edged Marcum in a 3-2 decision. With UIU leading 21-15 in the team race heading into the heavyweight match, Hunter Bye maintained the lead, losing 1-0 to Nathan Coley for only three King team points.

West Liberty 25, No. 21 Upper Iowa 14
Jackson Heaston started the dual against No. 13 Logan Davis at 125 pounds. After both wrestlers recorded an escape in regulation, Davis won with a 3-point nearfall in overtime to pick up the win. 

Schmit went up against No. 13 James Armstrong Jr. at 133 pounds. After Armstrong Jr. recorded an early takedown, Schmit reversed and found a four-point nearfall for a 6-3 lead. An escape and two-point nearfall by Armstrong tied the matchup going into the final period. 

After an early escape by Armstrong Jr. in the third period, Schmit recorded a takedown with 53 seconds left. An escape by Armstrong Jr. wasn't enough, and Schmit won 9-8. 

Denstad won in a 7-1 decision after putting up a pair of takedowns. Klostermann fell to No. 8 Nico Taddy at 157. Westendorf totaled two escapes and a two-point nearfall to get overtime against Gabe Nlissenbach. He recorded a takedown with 46 seconds left in overtime to win. 

Marcum shutout Levi Abbott 16-0 for a tech fall. He picked up two takedowns, a four-point nearfall, and a three-point nearfall in the win.
