Peacocks lose GLVC opener to ranked opponent

Pranger records first career goal in loss

Indianapolis - Upper Iowa men's soccer (1-3) lost its first GLVC match on the road against No. 8 Indianapolis (4-0-1). John Pranger scored his first career goal during the 38th minute.

The Greyhounds struck first as Geo Terlizzi blasted in a goal from the left side of the field during the 13th minute. Sam Siegel added a second in the 18th minute, and Terlizzi converted a penalty kick in the 20th minute to push the lead to 3-0.

The Peacocks responded late in the half as John Pranger scored in the 38th minute. Nikola Momcilovic set him up with a beautiful high pass toward the left side of the goal, and Pranger finished it with a header into the bottom left corner, 3-1.

The beginning of the second period started out slowly, with both teams battling back and forth until Alvaro Sanchez set up Colin Elder for a shot from the right side of the goal, to make the score 3-1.

Minutes later, UIndy's Joey Longo received a yellow card. Upper Iowa's James Moody then set up for a free kick from the far left side in the 82nd minute and sent the ball past goalkeeper Keerti Unamatla into the back-right corner of the net, cutting the score to 4-2.

Pranger and Moody each scored for UIU, with Pranger netting the first goal of his career. Alejandro Sanchez and Abraham Navarro paced the Peacocks with two shots apiece, while Reilly Moore added one attempt. Sanchez also led the team with two shots on goal.

Noah Nymark-Pedersen protected the net for the Peacocks. He recorded three saves, two of which came in the first half.

Upper Iowa was outshot in the game, 18-7. The Greyhounds had 11 shots to one in the first period and seven to three in the second. However, the Peacocks had more corner shots with three, while UIndy had one.

UIU returns to Fayette on Sunday to face No. 23 Lewis at 2:30 p.m. at Harms-Eischeid Stadium.
