Peacock baseball challenged McKendree in the first game of the series and fell by a score of 6-1. UIU shifted to 15-19 (10-11 GLVC) on the year, while MCK improved to 8-23 overall and 6-11 in conference action.
Ethan Sawyer led the Peacocks at the plate with two of the team's four hits. The Bearcats recorded ten hits in the outing.
Brady Stevens (2-3) took the loss on the mound after five innings of work. He allowed six hits, four runs, and walked four batters. He struck out four during his outing.
Upper Iowa struck first in the second inning when
Paul Safranski delivered an RBI single to third base, bringing home
Thane Meiners for a 1-0 lead.
McKendree responded in the third with a big inning, starting with an RBI triple that scored one run to tie the game 1-1. The Bearcats followed up with several more hits and capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to come out of the third frame with a 4-1 lead.
In the sixth, the Bearcats stole home, adding to the lead. The Bearcats put the game out of reach in the eighth with a solo home run to left field, sealing the 6-1 victory.
Upper Iowa baseball is back in action tomorrow in a doubleheader against McKendree starting at 12 p.m.
