Parkside Holds Off Upper Iowa in 7-5 Victory

Peacock baseball faced UW Parkside in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, falling by a score of 7-5. UIU shifted to 11-13 on the year, while UWP improved to 16-7.

The home team notched 11 hits, while the visitors recorded seven.

The scoring opened in the third inning when the Rangers launched a two-run homer to right field for a 2-0 lead. The fourth inning saw more offense from the Rangers, as they hit a single up the middle to score one more, extending their lead to 3-0.

Upper Iowa responded in the bottom of the fourth, starting with a double from Jared Grams., who brought in Brock Zimmer to cut the deficit to 3-1. Moments later, Ethan Sawyer singled to third base to score JJ Vargas, cutting the lead further to 3-2.

Parkside added to their advantage in the fifth inning on a double to right center, driving in two more runs, making it 5-2. The sixth inning continued the back-and-forth play, as a UWP ground out to second base drove in a run for a 6-2 lead. However, Upper Iowa wasn't done yet, as Paul Safranski put down a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the frame, scoring Sage Stellmacher, followed by Evan Hubatch crossing home plate on a wild pitch to bring the game to 6-4.

In the ninth inning, the Rangers sealed the game with a solo home run to left field, pushing the lead to 7-4. Upper Iowa mounted a final rally when Thane Meiners doubled to right center to score Bryce Hall, but it wasn't enough as Parkside held on for the 7-5 win.

Mason Adkins took the loss on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing three runs on four hits.

Peacock baseball is back in action this weekend in a four-game series against Rockhurst.
