Miners Defensive Presence too much for Peacocks

The Peacocks concluded their homestand against Missouri S&T where the Miners barely pulled away with a 57-55 win.
 
Upper Iowa started the match by converting 4-6 shots, as Ava Privet swished a deep three pointer before Mia Huberty scored two-point buckets on consecutive possessions. Both teams would constantly trade baskets midway through the quarter, as Sydnee Nelson knocked down a three from the elbow, before the Miners added a three of their own. Brooke Lechleitner got on the board by making her defender jump on a pump fake, where she drove by her to hit the open layup. Following a Missouri S&T layup, Lindsey Davis recorded a three pointer and both teams recorded two-point jump shots on their following possessions. The Peacocks played lockdown defense over the final four minutes of the quarter, as they did not allow a single basket. Huberty added a jumper with ten seconds remaining, putting UIU up 23-15 at the end of the first.
 
Kayla Bohr scored the Peacocks first four points of the second, as she swished both her free throw attempts before adding a layup. Anna Finley of the Miners scored a jump shot and knocked down a three pointer, but Huberty was able to extend their lead to ten with a basket in the paint. The Peacocks would shoot lights out to end the quarter, which started with Anna Soler knocking down a three. Mia Huberty scored a shot from beyond the arc on the following possession, before a Huberty block led to Bohr scoring Upper Iowa's third three pointer in a row. The Peacocks closed out the half up 43-29, where all 14 of the Miners second quarter points were scored by Finley.
 
Ava Privet scored her second three pointer of the game one minute into the second half. The Miners were able to thrive in the paint all quarter long, as all eight of their field goals were scored at the basket. The closed out the period with a layup, and a steal and fastbreak layup at the buzzer tied the game at 46 apiece. Lechleitner put UIU back in the lead with a contested layup, and both teams would trade baskets till a Miner three game them a 53-52 lead. Following a pair of Miner free throws, Bohr shot 2-2 at the line to cut the lead to two with 50 seconds remaining. The Peacocks recorded a much needed stop to get the ball back, and they fired a three pointer at the buzzer, which bounced off the rim, giving Missouri S&T the 57-55 win.
 
Kayla Bohr led all UIU scorers with 15 points on 5-13 shooting. She shot a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line and hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.
 
Mia Huberty put up 13 points on 6-17 shooting from the floor. She recorded three rebounds, three assists, a team-high three steals and one blocked shot.
 
Ava Privet added ten points and four rebounds while shooting 4-11 from the field.

The Peacocks will journey to St. Louis, Mo. for their final road trip of the regular season. Upper Iowa will go up against Maryville on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 5:15 p.m. and Missouri-St. Louis, Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
