Fifth and Sixth Inning Surge Sends Rogers State Over Upper Iowa

Peacock baseball vied with Rogers Stats in Claremore, Okla. in their first contest of the season, falling in a 10-6 decision. The two teams will compete in a double header tomorrow, with the first game beginning at 11 a.m.

Both squads recorded eight hits each, but the Hillcats were able to bring more around the bases after walking ten times, compared to the Peacocks, who walked once.

Ethan Sawyer paced UIU at the plate with two hits, while Jared Grams recorded the team's only home run. Grams, Bryce Hall and Justin Baehler collected two RBIs.

Ethan Bombardier threw for four innings, recording four strikeouts and not surrendering any runs but allowing three hits. Others who took place on the mound for the Peacocks were Gabe Olson, Marcus Champagne (L) and Thane Meiners

The game was scoreless through the fourth inning, and at that point, UIU tallied one hit while RSU mustered three.

The Hillcats were first on the scoreboard in the fifth inning, recording three runs off three hits.

Upper Iowa had an immediate response in the top of the sixth, tacking on four runs for the 4-3 lead fueled by five hits. The Peacocks got their bats going with two outs already recorded in the inning. Hall singled through the right side and brought in two runners, followed by a single from Justin Baehler that brought two more around.

Rogers State scored four more runs in the sixth inning behind two hits, reaching seven total runs between the fifth and sixth innings. Then they added one in the seventh and two in the eighth to reach ten runs.

Going into the ninth inning, Upper Iowa trailed 10-4, but a home run from Grams after a walk from Sawyer would cut into the deficit for the Peacocks trail 10-6, the score the game concluded at.
